Australia will be well represented at the 2023 World Taekwondo Championships, with 16 athletes selected to compete in Azerbaijan from May 29 – June 4.
The National Selection Event was held last weekend in Penrith, NSW, which saw winners of each division gain immediate selection to the Australian World Championship team.
The team will be looking to break Australia’s medal drought at the World Taekwondo Championships, the last medal being won back in 2013. With a mixture of experienced international athletes and developing young guns, there are plenty of medal prospects travelling to Baku!
CombatAUS National Performance Coach and World Championships Head Coach, Seokhun Lee is excited by the potential of the 16 athletes selected. “I’m looking forward to the 2023 World Championships in Azerbaijan. Watching the Australian Selection Event, I saw significant improvement in skills across all athletes. If we prepare accordingly, I believe we can achieve some great results at the upcoming World Championships” said Lee.
An Australian squad will be competing at the Dutch & Belgian Opens in March, before travelling to Asia for a number of competitions and training camps. A five-week training block at the NPC in Melbourne will be the final block of preparation before departing for the World Championships.
