CombatAUS Receives Additional Support Through Paris 2024 Olympic & Paralympic Preparation Fund

Federal Minister for Sport, Anika Wells today announced a one-off $20million fund to support NSOs in the final 12 months prior to the Paris 2024 Olympics.

Administered by the Australian Sports Commission, this additional financial support will assist sports to deliver initiatives aimed at enhancing medal potential and performance at Paris 2024.

CombatAUS welcomes this timely assistance given the ongoing inflation in travel and accommodation costs globally over the past 12 months, which has put huge strain on our ability to support the required level of training and competition opportunities for its Paris 2024 campaign.

The nature of Combat Sports in Australia requires significant international travel to far ranging locations to not only earn Olympic qualification, but to compete against world-class opposition, to best prepare Australian athletes to perform and stand on the podium at Paris 2024 and beyond.

CombatAUS High Performance Director Andrew Pratley says this is huge news for the Australian sporting industry and Combat Sports in particular.

“This additional investment will give our growing pool of medal potential athletes the best chance to maximise that potential in Paris. It will give increased ability to send athletes to critical qualification events overseas and allow additional training camp and competition opportunities to be explored.”

CombatAUS is confident this funding will not only have an impact on High Performance activity but also positive effects on its Member Sports. Judo Australia CEO Beck Hamilton added, “The announcement this morning came with a collective sigh of relief as we strive to provide the best opportunities for our athletes to not only qualify but perform to the highest standards in Paris.”

CombatAUS would like to thank the Federal Government and the ASC for its support of Combat Sports through the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Preparation Fund and ongoing High Performance investment.
