With just weeks until the 2025 Judo World Championships, four Australian judoka are heading to Hungary, following a series of outstanding performances:
- Tinka Easton (W-57kg)
- Katharina Haecker (W-63kg)
- Aoife Coughlan (W-70kg)
- Maria Swan (W-78kg)
The Australian team delivered three medals at the recent Senior Panamerican Oceania Championships in Chile, led by current WR6 Aoife Coughlan, claiming gold. Aoife’s success in Santiago was preceded by an equally impressive performance at the Austrian Grand Prix in March, where she also topped the podium.
Fellow World Championships team members, Tinka Easton and Maria Swan, joined Aoife on the podium in Chile, taking home bronze. Tinka has impressed since moving weight categories at the start of 2025, with a goal to reach the Top 100 in time to qualify for the upcoming World Championships. She has exceed this, now sitting at WR53.
Maria Swan continues to show why she is one of Australia’s best developing talents, now WR43 after a strong start to 2025 and several breakthrough performances in late 2024.
3 x Olympian Katharina Haecker recently returned to the tatami for the first time since Paris 2024. Competing at the Kazakhstan Grand Slam, Katharina performed well against the eventual silver medalist from Japan.
The team travels to Germany on May 30th for a five-day camp in Kienbaum, before arriving in Budapest on June 5th to finalise preparations.
The 2025 Senior World Championships will be held from June 13th – 20th in Budapest, and this group are determined to leave their mark on the global stage.
